Welcome to the Sarcoxie Bands Website!

On this website you will find information pertaining to the Sarcoxie Band program and a calendar of events to keep parents and supporters up to date of coming band events.

Goals:

  • Build musicality in each student.
  • Correct technical facility on each instrument.
  • Build positive relationships in both large and small ensemble settings.

About:

Study begins in 6th grade where students may start on the following instruments:

  • Flute
  • Clarinet
  • Alto Sax
  • Trumpet
  • Baritone
  • Trombone
  • Tuba
  • Percussion

In 6th grade students learn the fundamentals of playing an instrument:  How to hold an instrument, forming the embouchure, learning the correct fingering/sticking, and producing a satisfying tone.

In 7th grade band students are taught more scales and become more proficient both technically and musically on the instrument.  The 7th grade band is often combined with the high school band or with the 6th grade band to form the Sarcoxie Middle School Concert Band.

The High School band program is comprised of the following:

  • Bear Pride Marching Band
  • Concert Band
  • Woodwind Choir
  • Brass Choir
  • Members also perform in solos and smaller ensembles.

The High School Jazz Band performs at least 3 concerts a year and at several festivals in the Spring.  Students must be enrolled and participate in the High School Band to perform with the Jazz Band.

Winter Drumline

The Winter Drumline is open to all members of the Sarcoxie Band Program grades 6-12.  This year our show is entitled "CANtastick".
