GCHS Titan Band Booster Meeting February 20, 2007 The meeting was call to order at 5:35 p.m. by President Leslie Ward. Those present were Leslie Ward, Anita Metz, Trisha Metz, & John Lopez. Attendance was low due to bad weather, multiple postponements, and a last minute decision to hold this meeting on the 20th. We will be meeting again March 6th. The minutes from the previous meeting were approved with a motion to approve by Anita Metz and seconded by John Lopez with all in favor. Treasurer’s Report A receipt has been issued for the trumpet donated to us. New deposit slips have been purchased for $27.50. We received a $125 donation. Betty's florist cost $187.50. We paid $211.50 to the EconoLodge for WV Honor band attendees. Other deposits and expenses leave the balance at $1,544.64. Fund Raisers We still have not received the check from Pizza Hut. Anita Metz is going to check on this. The FRN is not planning on any more yard sales however they referred us to the Rec department who held a yard sale in February and is expected to hold another in April. The Valentine's Day flower sale was negatively impacted by school closings due to bad weather. We netted $39.50 with 91 out of 150 flowers being sold. Leslie Ward has been contacted by Prime Time regarding a fund raiser. This is the company that made the seat cushions we sold during football season. We pick an item we want to sell. Examples are seat cushions, car flags, “#1” foam fingers, megaphones, water bottles. Prime Time does an analysis of our area and decides how many items our economy can support. Prime Time contacts one or more businesses in our area and sells enough advertising to cover their production costs and make a profit. Prime Time sends us the items. We owe nothing as advertising has paid for them already. We sell the items for what we think is a reasonable price. Leslie to find out what items are available, and we will vote next meeting. We'd like to do something not limited to sports so we could sell them at sporting events and concerts. Mr. Lopez brought up the idea of selling strawberries (fruit, not plants). These would be sold by advance order. The senior class is also doing this fundraiser so we were undecided whether or not to pursue it. Leslie Ward suggested selling ice cream bars during lunch. Mr. Lopez will ask Mr. Daquilante if this would be okay. It may be a problem because WV schools are trying to encourage a healthy diet among students. No future fund raisers were discussed as it was felt that there were not enough in attendance to have a good amount of discussion, input, and volunteers. Old Business Uniforms - We may be able to get hand me downs from another school that is purchasing new uniforms for next year. Mr. Lopez to check into this and report back. Bingo Letter – has been written, not sure if it's been sent. Mr. Lopez to check with Amy Shreves about this. Pep Band – the season is over with most games being cancelled due to bad weather. However we got many positive comments and it is felt that the season was a success. We will do this again next year. Marching Honor Band was attended by Trish Metz, Olivia Shreves, and Sara Sivard. New Business Kennywood - Mr. Lopez would like to do an day trip to Kennywood near Pittsburgh. The band would participate in a festival on May 18th and then have free time to enjoy the park. There would be various groups performing: Wind Ensemble (9-12th grades), Beginning Band, Jazz Band, and maybe a Percussion Ensemble. Cost is $32 per person Additional costs would be transportation and optional meal ticket. We will need new permission and medical release forms. All State will be in late March. Mr. Lopez will attend but no students will be going. April Ratings will be on Wednesday March 28th or Thursday March 29th in Parkersburg. This event will occur during school so only select members of the band will be participating. All 9-12th graders and about half of the younger students will go, depending on audition results. Chaperones will be needed. We need to pay to attend the April ratings. If we pay before March 1 the fee is $110, later the fee will be $160. Anita Metz moved to pay now and Mr. Lopez seconded. The motion carried. Concerts will be given the week of April 9th. Five ensembles are expected to perform: Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Choir, Big Band, and a combination of all groups. We may also have a Drum Line performance. Graduation will be May 28th and the band will be playing Pomp and Circumstance. Meeting was adjourned, with Mr. Lopez making the motion and Anita Metz seconding. All in favor. Adjourned 6:15 p.m. Respectfully Submitted Leslie Ward President
