GCHS Band Booster Meeting September 12, 2006 The first GC Band Booster meeting of the 06-07 school year was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by John Lopez, band director. The following supporters were in attendance: Anita Metz, Carolyn Greenlief, Leslie Ward, Jason Cosner, Evelyn Fraley, Breck Lamar, Tiffany Isenhart, Sam Cottrell, Trish Metz, Beverly Tomey, Mr. Rodriquez, Sam Delanter, Betty Cottrell, Cindy Pounds, Amy Shreves, Olivia Shreves. Mr. Lopez opened the meeting by welcoming everyone and discussed his hopes and dreams for the band this year. There were no minutes from the previous meeting. Discussion was opened to waive the dues for this school year. Mrs. Pounds made the motion and it was seconded by Carolyn Greenlief. Motion carried. Treasurers’ report by Anita Metz: Starting balance for the year was $1,391.37, $670.07 was raised by selling sponsorship in our band program and was deposited to bring the balance to $2,061.44 to date. Anita asked if any expenses from sponsor fundraisers and Mr. Lopez replied no. He is doing his own booklet. Next order of business was to elect office holders. Anita Metz nominated Leslie Ward for Chairperson, Carolyn Greenlief seconded. Motion carried. Anita Metz moved to table Vice-Chairperson till next meeting, Cindy Pounds seconded. Motion carried. Cindy Pounds volunteered to be Secretary, Mr. Rodriquez seconded. Motion carried. Anita Metz volunteered to be Treasurer, Mr. Rodriquez seconded. Motion carried. Fund Raisers were discussed as follows: 50/50 is now being done by the cheerleaders. Parking is now being done by track/cross country. Candy sales Mr. Lopez mentioned selling t-shirts at games – This is being done by the Jr. Class. Pizza Hut 15% night. Mr. Rodriquez will follow-up with Pizza Hut manager. Car Wash McDonald’s – Kid’s clean and bus tables – for percentage of sales Clarksburg Bingo – Tuesday nights, tax ID required. Crispy Cream donut sales Flower sales for Valentines and or Mother’s day. Spaghetti dinner with band performing Coffee & Friends live entertainment small ensembles for a percentage of sales, Spring. Cow Bingo at old football field; sell chances for $5.00, concessions and or a bake sale on the side. Mr. Lopez stated that the student council assigns fundraisers/duties at the games. He is going to check on-line for music grants. Mrs. Shreves and Mr. Lopez have written grants in the past. There may be an opportunity to get a Gear-up Grant from Fairmont State College. It is to help fund low-income schools improve their band/choir programs. On Monday September 18th, from 5 – 7 p.m. Kerr’s music will be in the band room discussing instruments with the beginning band members. Mr. Lopez will try and use levy monies for the purchase of instruments for those that cannot afford them. Upcoming performances: Doddridge County trip cancelled, it is their homecoming. Thursday 9/14 Mini Titan Football game. October 7th GSC Homecoming parade. October 20th Homecoming/parade. October 27th Varsity Football make-up game. November 3rd Senior night Mr. Lopez will check on Homecoming parades for GCHS & GSC. Discussion ensued regarding Gilmer County’s new web site www.wvmountainsun.com. Mr. Lopez would like to get new uniforms for the coming school year, as there won’t be enough uniforms if all of the beginning band members continue on. He also stated that this was not a priority, getting instruments into the hands of those who need them is more important right now. He would prefer to use the levy money for that and let the band booster account build before getting new uniforms. Mr. Rodriquez suggested using more technology to get the word out about the band ex: CCTV, e-mail etc. . Mr. Lopez mentioned band letterhead would be nice. Mrs. Ward mentioned putting in a program or announcements. It was determined that the band boosters meet the first Tuesday of every month at 5:00 p.m. Anita Metz motioned to adjourn, Mr. Rodriquez seconded. Motion carried.
